Sanwo-Olu canvasses environmentally-friendly real estate

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the significance of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in driving the future of the real estate sector in Lagos. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, at the two-day Real Estate Discussions and Awards (REDA) organized by Thinkmint Nigeria, held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, the governor praised the event’s theme, "Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era," as timely and relevant in light of the industry's evolving dynamics.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that real estate is more than just constructing buildings—it’s about building communities, fostering economic growth, and driving social development. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to keeping Lagos at the forefront of real estate development through sound policies and strategic investments in infrastructure.

He highlighted the state's ongoing efforts to simplify land title registrations and enhance property ownership security by issuing Certificates of Occupancy, initiatives that have increased investor confidence and reduced property disputes, making Lagos more appealing for real estate investments.

Additionally, Sanwo-Olu underscored the vital role of infrastructure projects, such as road expansions and enhanced transportation networks, in unlocking the potential of key areas. He also placed a special focus on sustainability, particularly in coastal areas like Eko Atlantic City, stressing the importance of green building practices and flood defences as part of Lagos' long-term strategy for addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.

In her welcome address, Imeida Olaoye, Managing Partner of Thinkmint Nigeria, praised stakeholders for embracing the theme and encouraged professionals to think creatively and collaborate to solve contemporary issues. She pointed out the importance of addressing changes in technology, policy reforms, and market demands, all critical to the future success of the sector.
Ayodeji Joseph, Managing Director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need for the industry to adapt and rethink traditional strategies to stay relevant in an ever-evolving world. He reaffirmed LSDPC’s commitment to solutions that meet immediate housing needs while driving long-term economic and infrastructural growth. Joseph also urged attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and embrace innovative ideas to navigate the challenges facing the real estate sector.
