FG inaugurates HYPREP council, Ogoni trust fund trustees

The Federal Government has inaugurated the second Governing Council of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and Board of Trustees of Ogoni Trust Fund in Abuja.

Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, said it is time to rejig the agency for enhanced structured and focused delivery of the clean up project.

He also explained that the United Nations Environment Project (UNEP) report was implemented for the benefits of Ogoni people, saying, the remediation of polluted land is progressing in various sites.

The President added, “We have carefully and painstakingly considered your backgrounds, profiles and competences in affording you the opportunity to serve in these offices, and see your appointment as patriotic national duty.”

The members of Governing Council of HYPREP are: Minister of Environment, Dr. Muhammad Abubakar, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of state Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva,Minister of state for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba.

Others include, National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno,(rtd), Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), Mr. Osagie Okunbor, representative of NGO/CSOs, Mr. Celestine Akpoborie, state representative of nine oil producing states (Rivers state).

Representatives of Ogoni people, Mr. George Fuyil,MOSOP, other Niger Delta Communities, Dr (Mrs) Timi Agari, Mrs. Pamela Esiri, Israel Kayode, Emem Okon, UNEP as observer, Project Coordinator of HYPREP (Secretary)

Members of Board of Trustees of Ogoni Trust Fund include Chairman, Dr. Michael Nwielaghi, Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainah Ahmed and Minister of state environment, Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor.

Others are Minister of state Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, representative of Ogoni people, Emmanuel Deeyah and Chief Bebe Okpabi.

International oil companies, Mr. OsagieOkunbor (SPDC), Mr. Insula Massimo(Agip), Mr. Alex Bobi,(Total), representative of other communities in Niger Delta, Adokiye Ikpoki, NGO, Chief Babjide Daimazia,UNEP and Legal Adviser (to be appointed by the Governing Council).
