An Abuja-based company, Just Fix It Synergy Nigeria Limited, has proposed the use of movable homes as a practical solution to Nigeria's housing shortage.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Mekwunye Prince, believes that with the rapid production rate of movable houses, which can yield approximately 100 units in just six months, this innovative approach could address the mass housing problem the nation faces.
Mr. Prince highlighted that the production time for one unit of these houses is approximately 21 days, with the ability to manufacture seven units within a six-week timeframe. These movable homes boast unique features, including solar installations. They are constructed using a combination of shipping containers, insulated fiber cement board, Plaster of Paris (POP) finish for the interiors, and other sustainable, eco-friendly materials. These residential homes are available in various designs, ranging from studio apartments and
large apartments to flats and duplexes, catering to both military and paramilitary housing needs.
"Moveable homes offer a rapid and effective solution to the housing problem because we can quickly mobilize our workforce, and in less than six months, produce up to 100 units of houses. The concept involves setting up an apartment on a piece of land, which can be easily dismantled and relocated whenever needed," Mr. Prince explained.
He added, "We are proposing a low-income green city project, consisting of cabins, each powered by solar energy, thereby eliminating the need for a connection to the electricity grid or generators. The final cost depends on the desired amenities, with more amenities naturally leading to a higher overall cost."
Mr. Prince emphasized the superior quality and affordability of their homes compared to other options in the market. While other companies might use laminated polystyrene boards, which are less durable and have a more significant environmental impact, Just Fix It Synergy Nigeria Limited focuses on creating stronger, more sustainable homes.
The company has completed various projects, including the construction of houses for the military and police training schools, and has even ventured into energy firms. They have built a total of 47 units of such houses in recent times.

Discussing the available designs, Mr. Prince explained, "We offer versatile designs, with options for compact spaces like 14 square meters for a room and toilet, or 15 square meters for a room, toilet, and small kitchen. Larger designs include a 40-foot option with a room, parlour, two toilets, and a kitchen. We also provide designs for three/four-bedroom duplexes, bungalows, and warehouses."
He concluded by stating that the cost of these homes can vary across different regions of the country due to varying material costs. However, when there is a high demand in certain areas, they plan to create production clusters, streamlining the process and potentially reducing costs for consumers. Prices for these movable homes range from N3 to N30 million.
